Opt for a mild shampoo that suits your hair type and use warm NOT hot water to wash your hair, as hot water can strip away natural oils and exacerbate dandruff.

  2. Use Anti-Dandruff Shampoos: Look for professional shampoos that contain active ingredients such as ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or pyrithione zinc. These ingredients help control the growth of Malassezia and reduce dandruff. Use the shampoo according to the instructions on the bottle, and give it time to work before rinsing thoroughly. Opt for gentle, sulfate-free hair products and limit the use of styling products to minimize dandruff symptoms.

  4. Incorporate Natural Remedies: Several natural ingredients can help alleviate dandruff. Tea tree oil, known for its anti-fungal properties, can be mixed with a carrier oil like almond or coconut and massaged onto the scalp before a wash. Aloe vera gel, apple cider vinegar, and neem oil are other natural remedies that can provide relief from dandruff. DIY Scalp Treatment Recipe: Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil (moisture/anti-fungal)

  • a few drops of tea tree essential oil (anti-fungal/anti-bacterial)

  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (ph balancing)

  • 1 teaspoon of honey (optional for soothing)


  1. In a small bowl, combine the coconut oil, tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar, and honey (if using). Mix well to ensure all the ingredients are thoroughly blended.

  2. Before applying the treatment, make sure your hair is dry or slightly damp. Section your hair to expose the scalp.

  3. Using your fingertips, gently massage the mixture into your scalp. Focus on areas that are prone to dandruff or dryness. Massage in circular motions for about 5 minutes to stimulate blood circulation.

  4. Once the mixture is applied, leave it on your scalp for 20-30 minutes to allow the ingredients to work their magic. You can cover your hair with a shower cap or towel to prevent any drips.

  5. After the desired time has passed, rinse your hair and scalp thoroughly with lukewarm water. Shampoo your hair once or twice to remove any oily residue.
